How much do driving lessons cost?

Driving lessons with Nolan School of Motoring cost £40 for one hour, £60 for 90 minutes, or £80 for two hours. Block booking discounts are also available. Visit our driving lessons page to see the full pricing and booking options.

Do I need a provisional licence before starting lessons?

Yes, you need a valid provisional driving licence before you can take lessons on public roads. Bring it with you to your first lesson. You can apply for a provisional licence through GOV.UK.

Do I need to pass my theory test before starting lessons?

No. You don’t need to pass your theory test before you start driving lessons. In fact, learning the theory alongside your practical driving lessons can help you understand how the rules of the road apply to real driving situations. You will, however, need to pass your theory test before you can book your practical driving test, so it’s a good idea to start preparing for it early. For extra help, you can also use the NSOM Academy Theory Test Help section to learn how to prepare and track your progress.

What happens during my first driving lesson?

Your first lesson starts with a chat about your experience and any concerns you may have. We’ll cover setting up your seat and mirrors, introduce the car’s controls and, when you’re ready, practise moving off and stopping in a suitable quiet area. The lesson will progress at a pace that suits you.

Do you teach nervous beginners?

Yes. It’s common to feel nervous when learning to drive. Lessons are calm, supportive and tailored to your confidence and experience. We’ll take things step by step, with clear explanations and time to practise. Let me know what worries you so we can work through it together.

How many driving lessons will I need?

There’s no fixed number of lessons that everyone needs. It depends on your experience, how regularly you take lessons and whether you can practise between them. I’ll give you honest feedback as you progress and help you develop the skills to drive safely and independently.

How often should I have driving lessons?

A regular weekly lesson is a good starting point. Consistent practice helps you build on what you’ve learned, while longer or more frequent lessons may suit some learners. We can agree on a lesson schedule that fits your availability, budget and progress.”

Do you offer block booking discounts?

Yes, block booking discounts are available. Visit our driving lessons page for current prices and offers, or contact me to discuss which option suits you.

Which areas do you cover?

I offer manual driving lessons in Stockport and surrounding areas. Contact me with your postcode and preferred lesson times so I can confirm whether I cover your location and have availability.

How will I know when I’m ready for my driving test?

You’ll be approaching test readiness when you can drive safely and consistently without regular help or reminders. We’ll review your progress together, including your observations, decisions, manoeuvres and ability to handle different road situations. I’ll give you honest advice about your readiness and anything that still needs practice.
